Popular with European visitors alike, Barbados is much more developed than any of the other Caribbean islands, and the island enjoys the highest rate of repeat visitors in the Caribbean.The island has some 60 miles of beach protected by coral reefs, thus making it ideal for watersports. The best beaches are located on the tranquil west coast where in fact most of the hotels are situated. The capital, Bridgetown, has a beautiful setting on Carlisle Bay, the island’s only natural harbour.Along the southwestern coast about nine miles from Bridgetown, there’s a cluster of small towns with excellent beaches, the liveliest being St. Lawrence.
Shopping in Barbados is tax-free.The main shopping area is Broad St. in Bridgetown, which houses several large department stores, and duty-free shops.
Barbados has an abundance of fine restaurants, offering a wide variety of local specialities, seafood, and continental cuisine. Casual wear is acceptable in most restaurants by day, and a more formal dress code is expected at night. It is in St. Lawrence`s’ Gap where all the restaurants and bars come alive at night.
Barbados offers visitors to the island a unique culture, which is reflected in its varied architecture, cuisine, dance, music, theatre, and art. Renowned for its’ “laid back” attitude, Barbados offers its visitors a perfect destination for a relaxing holiday.
